Writing Narrative

I am learning to write a narrative story.
I'll know I can do this when my stories have:

- Character - Setting - Introduction - Problem - Climax - Conclusion - Descriptive language such as smilies and metaphors - Character speech using speech marks.

Music

In music with Mr McCullum I have been learning to play the ukulele.

I'll know I've been successful when I hold the ukulele correctly and can strum the cords.
Something I learned was to put my finger in the right place.

Taiao

In Taiao I have been learning about chickens. I have learned about the parts of a chicken, some facts about chickens, the parts of an egg (which I used to make an omelet), and what a chicken needs to be happy and healthy.

Next time I will put more information to read more.

Math's Taparima

I am learning to use place value to add.

Break numbers into place value, then add numbers in each value and put the number back together.
Next time I will get my SML done in time.

Writing Report

I am learning to write an information report.

I'll know I can do this when I can write a report with a title, classification, description, location and a group of facts about a subject.
Something I enjoyed was doing my insect report.

Reading

I am learning to think about the information and ideas in a text and think about the purpose.
I'll know  the can do this when I can recall main ideas in my own words
Something I found hard was to read something new.

Art Don Binney

We are learning to create art inspired by Don Binney.

I'll know I can do this when I can write a report with a title, classification, description, location and a group of facts about a subject.

Next time I will colour the white gaps.

Learning Qualities

I am learning to communicate.

I'll know I can do this when I can identify a variety of ways I can communicate with others.

I communicate by talking.

Creative Writing - Scripts

We are learning to write scripts to create a play.

We know we are successful if our script has:
- multiple characters
- a setting
- character speech
- stage direction (in a different colour to the speech)

Once we have written our scripts we are creating the plays using Puppet Pals.

Peace Week 2017

I have been learning about Peace Week.

Peace Week is an annual tradition organised by The Peace Foundation every year. You can learn more about The Peace Foundation by following this LINK.

As a way to learn about Peace Week I did three different Peace Week activities.

With Miss Brennan we created a poster to help promote peace and Peace Week.

With Mrs Baker we made hand print doves and wrote messages of peace on them.

With Mr Horn we looked at the symbols of peace such as the dove and created origami doves.

Student Led Conference

My highlight at my student led conference was maths because it is challenging to do.
I am most proud of sharing my monster soup because of the drawing and writing.
I think my parents enjoyed my student led conference because my parents asked me lots of questions.
Next time I would like to be more confident.

Reading

My learning goal this term is to find and summarise the key information.

I can do this by finding who, what, when, where, why and how.

Procedural Writing

WALHT write a procedure
Something I learned about writing a procedure is you have to number the steps.
Something I would like to do better is to use better verbs.

Instructions for Making Monster Soup

Title: making monster soup	Ingredients
Goal:how to make monster soup	21 snakes 5 bones 1 pen 20 books 12 cups of blood 2 monsters 10 egg eyes 12 eyeballs 10 cup of eye 10 tsp vomit 32tbs sand 600 green pens
Steps/Method 1. Collect the ingredients 2. Wash hands in green gooey blood 3.mix all of the ingredients together 4.make sure that it will be yuck

Something I learned was that you can collect data from people.

My next step is making sure my tally marks are in groups of 5.

Dance

At dance we have been been learning salsa and hip hop, it was challenging. I have enjoyed doing hip hop because you have to be focused. I am learning to do the salsa because you have to heaps of feet movement.

The Year 4 students went to Cheskin Orchard and Chook Manor to learn about fruit and chickens.

I learned that chickens have got different feathers.

I enjoyed learning all about how chickens lay different eggs.
